Michael Simmons

Michael began his real estate development career in 1990, working alongside developer Robert Mendelsohn on the master planning of Gateway 101 in East Palo Alto. He later joined Tsen and Associates, a consulting firm specializing in affordable housing development and financing. Motivated by a passion for community revitalization, he went on to serve as Executive Director of the San Francisco Development Corporation, where he led development and counseling teams in delivering projects that addressed critical community needs—including homeownership opportunities, service-enriched housing, and senior living.

In 1997, Michael founded MSPDI, focusing on affordable housing and community-serving facilities. His work is guided by a deep appreciation for thoughtful building design and programming—how well-designed space can enhance service delivery, strengthen communities, and support long-term success. Michael champions a collaborative, accountable team approach to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Originally from Providence, Rhode Island, Michael holds a BS from Boston University and an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley with a concentration in real estate.
